Unveiled at the 2025 New York International Auto Show, the all-new 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness pushes the limits with trail-rated performance, advanced technology, and rugged design—featuring 9.5 inches of ground clearance and upgraded suspension with electronically controlled dampers.

Adventure-ready and tougher than ever, the 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness is set to arrive at local dealerships in early 2026 with the rest of the trims arriving in late 2025. Whether you’re exploring forest trails or navigating your daily drive, the new Outback Wilderness is engineered to perform. Read below to see the 2026 Wilderness features!

Performance Built for the Trail

  • Ground Clearance: A class-leading 9.5 inches of ground clearance ensures the Outback Wilderness can handle uneven terrain with ease—more than many full-size SUVs.

  • Suspension Upgrades: New electronically controlled dampers work with onboard sensors to adjust damping force in real-time, improving stability on rocky trails while maintaining comfort on highways.

  • Powertrain: A turbocharged 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER® engine pumps out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque, paired with a Lineartronic® CVT with 8-speed manual shift mode.

  • Enhanced AWD System: Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive now features faster differential lockup and improved stability at turn-in and cornering.

Advanced X-MODE® and Off-Road Tech

  • All-Terrain Tires: Bridgestone Duelers mounted on 17-inch matte black wheels offer dependable grip on mud, gravel, and snow.

  • Approach Angles: Improved geometry boosts approach (20°), breakover (21.2°), and departure (22.5°) angles for serious off-roading.

Refined and Functional Exterior

The 2026 Outback Wilderness adopts a more SUV-like stance with boxier proportions, a taller roofline, and more aggressive body cladding. Key highlights include:

  • Matte black roof rails rated for 800 lbs static load (220 lbs dynamic)

  • LED hexagonal fog lights and high-strength underbody protection
