About Dustin

For the past 10 years Dustin has worked for Bud Clary Auto Group, the family-owned, third-generation group behind 14 franchise stores in five Washington cities. As Marketing Director he has supported every brand the group sells, from Ford, Chevrolet and Subaru to Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Volkswagen, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram.

Cars caught him young, and his first lessons with a manual gearbox came in a Mercedes-Benz 240D. By graduation he held AYES and NATEF certifications and a certificate of work readiness, plus college credits from starting toward an ASE certification.

He still turns his own wrenches on anything with an engine. His Chevy Silverado 1500 rides on a mid-travel suspension setup, his Nissan 370Z is a drift car, and his favorite is an Audi A6 TDI with all-wheel drive and a large single turbo. Close to 200,000 miles in, all of the TDI's work has been his own, including upgrading and replacing its turbo three times. Apart from one mechanic who programmed a key fob, nobody else has worked on his cars.

On every page he writes, the aim is simple: give shoppers the answer he would give a friend.

Dustin and Bud Clary Subaru in Longview

The car Dustin likes best is an all-wheel-drive diesel closing in on 200,000 miles, and he has done all of its work with his own hands, so he knows what an older AWD car needs. That is a natural fit for Bud Clary Subaru at 961 Commerce Ave. in Longview, where Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes on nearly every new car the store sells, and where the areas we serve run from Kelso and Kalama down to Woodland, Ridgefield and Battle Ground.

His first guide for this store is for the buyer who needs that dependable AWD car but is working with a tight budget or a short credit history. It explains what a lender weighs besides the score, why a lower-priced used car or a larger down payment changes the conversation, and why all four tires deserve a careful look on a used AWD car. Where it states a rule, it links to whoever wrote the rule: Subaru for the car, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the FTC or Washington law for the loan.
